Are Mason Jars Safe for Candles?

Jul. 06, 2022

Candle glass jars and other container candles have become one of the most popular types of candles on the market today. Their most popular feature, compared to other freestanding candles such as pillar and taper candles, is that these candles in glass jars do not drip.

Another factor is the width of the width, these candles usually produce a larger pool of wax. The larger the pool of warm, fragrant wax, the more fragrance will be emitted from the room in which the candle burns. Glass container candles are also popular because the light from the flame is rarely hidden and glows through the glass.

What types of candles are safe?

Use the non-toxic, healthiest candles to ensure your home is safe. The healthiest candles include soy candles and beeswax candles. Wicks are made from woven cotton or paper with a cellulose wick (the purpose of the wick in the 'core' is to prevent the wick from tipping over and to extinguish the fire itself)

So are glass container candles safe?

The glass that is safe for candles is heat-resistant, does not crack and is not porous. A good example of a safe, glass container for making candles is pressure canning jars, which are designed to withstand high heat and hold wax well.

Similarly, you may ask, are mason jars safe for candles?

It may not be a raging fire, but a group of candles in Mason jars can add delightful charm to a summer evening! The jars are heat resistant so they're safe from the flame — and the flame won't get extinguished by the wind.

Likewise, can you put a candle in a glass vase? Any container made out of glass or ceramic can crack, even those that are considered heat resistants, such as canning jars or glassware made specifically for candle making. So, the key to a safe container candle is supervision.

Heat-resistant glass helps to prevent breakage or cracking. However, even ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) approved glass cannot be guaranteed against cracking or splitting. The two most common causes of glass breakage due to the heat of a candle flame are, firstly, a wick that is not centred and allowed to get too close to the side and, secondly, a flame that is too close to the bottom.

Proper care should be taken when burning container candles, just as with any other style of candle. Place the candle in a heat-resistant holder to protect the surface on which the candle sits. Keep the candle away from any flammable objects. Ensure that the wick remains in the centre of the candle and extinguish the wax level when it gets too close to the bottom of the glass.

If the flame reaches the bottom of the container, too much heat may concentrate at the base of the wick and cause the glass to break. A good container candle should have a self-extinguishing tab and a higher neck. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Under proper supervision, safe candle containers will give you hours of pleasure, enjoying the ambience it creates, the enchanting flame and the wonderful atmosphere the scent provides.
